Wellness, the state of being well, healthy, is fundamental to and part of the process of, moving toward what matters. Being well, able, healthy, and fit enough to do things that move you toward what gives your life meaning and purpose is critical for living a happy, fulfilled life.

 8 Dimensions 

Being well means having a satisfying balance of these 8 dimensions:

Physical Dimension

  • Exercising regularly
  • Sleeping well
  • Eating healthy 
  • Breathing properly
  • Staying appropriately hydrated

Intellectual Dimension

  • Approaching life with curiosity
  • Being a lifelong learner
  • Fostering a growth mindset

Emotional Dimension

  • Developing psychological flexibility skills
  • Understanding and respecting your feelings, values, and attitudes
  • Cultivating compassion for yourself and others
  • Using your emotions as a source of information for positive growth
  • Being open to all the emotional experiences of being human

Social Dimension

  • Consciously connecting yourself to others and to communities
  • Showing care and concern about others, and letting others care about you
  • Belonging to and contributing to a support system

Spiritual Dimension

  • Understanding your values and beliefs
  • Using your values and beliefs to find purpose,and meaning in your life 
  • Doing things to move you toward purpose and meaning

Vocational Dimension

  • Doing work in which you find personal satisfaction
  • Using your work to benefit others

Financial Dimension

  • Responsibly managing your financial resources 
  • Preparing for current and future financial needs
  • Understanding your financial values, and needs

Environmental Dimension

  • Noticing how your social, natural, and built environments affect your health and well-being
  • Occupying environments that foster health and happiness
  • Being aware of the effects of your daily habits on the physical environment

Working on Wellness

  • Balancing and harmonizing these 8 Dimensions of Wellness is a lifelong, individual journey. There is no one right way for everyone and what is right for you now will change as your life changes. Practice being open and willing  to being a work in progress.
